While Amazon does not have a prime discount for seniors yet, some seniors can save on the subscription in other ways.
With all the senior discounts out there for popular subscription services, you might be curious about whether or not Amazon Prime has a good deal for seniors. Despite its appeal, many people are deterred by Amazon Prime’s expensive cost. An Amazon Prime subscription costs $139 annually or $14.99 per month.
While there is no Amazon Prime discount for seniors, there are discounts that some seniors can benefit from. Read on to learn about other discounted Prime memberships that you could qualify for.
Amazon Prime provides the following perks as a member:
Free two-day shipping and expedited shipping
Unlimited streaming (video, music, and games) for Prime Video
Access to features, like Prime Try Before You Buy, Prime Reading, and unlimited cloud photo storage on Amazon Photos
At $139 per year or $14.99 per month, seniors on a fixed budget could find that the cost isn’t worth it for the benefits.
Amazon doesn’t offer a specific senior discount, but certain seniors qualify for the Prime Access Membership. This subscription offers a reduced monthly subscription fee of $6.99 (a 50% discount). The benefits of a Prime Access Membership are exactly the same as a regular membership.
You can qualify for Prime Access Membership if you receive assistance from certain government programs like:
Medicaid
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Direct Express Prepaid Debit Card
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Women, Infants and Children Program, or Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
You will need to show documentation of proof for eligibility. As part of the application process, you’ll need to upload a photo of an EBT card or other document on the Amazon site to qualify for the program.

Without eligibility for a Prime Access Membership through one of the programs mentioned above, seniors on Medicare pay the standard amount for an Amazon Prime Membership.

Amazon Prime does not have a discount for seniors who receive Social Security benefits. However, Social Security recipients who also receive SSI benefits may qualify for Prime Access. If you’re eligible, you’ll pay a reduced monthly cost of $6.99.
Seniors could save on Amazon Prime in a few other ways:
For those not eligible for Prime Access, paying annually for Amazon Prime could be more cost-effective than paying monthly. If you choose to pay monthly ($14.99), you would end up paying $179.88 for the whole year. When you pay yearly, the cost is $139, which saves you $40.88.
Amazon Prime offers a 30-day free trial. Keep in mind that your membership automatically upgrades once the trial ends.
If a family member has Amazon Prime, they can share the membership with Amazon Household. Membership sharing includes one other adult.
Any Amazon gift card can be used towards the annual payment of $139.
Although there is no senior discount for Amazon Prime, there are options for eligible seniors with the Prime Access program and through other Prime features.
